The Foundation for Tulsa Schools is committed to providing educational resources and opportunities for all students at Tulsa Public Schools. Through generous donations, we are excited to offer students the ability to apply for the following scholarships.

Assistance League Tulsa Scholar Award

Are you a concurrent enrollment student in a 600 level section?

Thanks to the support of the Assistance League of Tulsa, Tulsa Public Schools high school students participating in concurrent enrollment at TCC are eligible for the Assistance League Tulsa Concurrent Scholarship. This scholarship covers course fees for up to two 600-level classes per semester.

To apply, please complete the scholarship application using the link provided. The deadline to apply is August 14, 2026.

 

The scholarship will be paid directly to the TCC bursar to cover the fees on your student account.

Creighton R. Knutson STEM Scholarship
LaVaughn S. Knutson Education Scholarship

The Creighton R. Knutson STEM Scholarship supports Memorial students pursuing STEM degrees.

The LaVaughn S. Knutson Education Scholarship supports Tulsa Public Schools students pursuing education or library science degrees.

Scholarship applications are due by March 27, 2026.

About Creighton R. and LaVaughn S. Knutson

Originally from North Dakota, LaVaughn and Creighton saw firsthand the value of education. A star football and basketball player throughout his teen years, Creighton joined the U.S. Naval Academy and became an engineer in the aerospace industry working on submarines, Apollo & Saturn NASA missions, and Boeing 747+ airplanes. LaVaughn graduated as valedictorian in high school and attended Minot State Teachers College. LaVaughn enjoyed teaching wherever Creighton’s job took them, and during their time in Tulsa, she was a substitute teacher before becoming an English teacher at Lewis and Clark Junior High (now an elementary school). Creighton and LaVaughn were married for 72 years and raised three children Craig, Keith, and Ann Marie. They were known for their generosity, kindness, discipline, and appreciation for education.

 

Willie James Spencer SCHOLARSHIP

The Willie James Spencer Scholarship was established to empower and uplift graduating high school seniors who are pursuing higher education and demonstrate both financial need and a strong commitment to personal growth through academics and extracurricular involvement.
This scholarship is dedicated to supporting students of color and individuals from historically underrepresented backgrounds who are ready to take the next step toward their educational and career goals.

Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
  • Be a graduating high school senior from a Tulsa Public Schools high school.
  • Have completed the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).
  • Demonstrate financial need and submit a short one-page essay describing their financial circumstances and desire to pursue higher education.
  • Show consistent extracurricular involvement throughout all four years of high school, such as participation in sports, music, student government, JROTC, or other student activities.
  • Identify as a person of color or member of a historically underrepresented group.
Award Details

Two Willie James Spencer Scholarships will be award annually in the amounts of $500. If awarded, funds will be paid directly to the attending college or university’s bursar office.
Scholarship applications are due by March 27, 2026.
 
About Willie James Spencer

Originally from Dumas, Arkansas, Willie was born the eighth child out of twelve children to Augusta Mae & Wallace George Spencer. He had a smile that lit up the world and was known for his intelligence, sense of humor, and kindness. Because of lack of opportunity due to growing up in poverty, Willie couldn’t utilize his skills or talented sports athleticism in higher education but instead focused on quickly joining the work force for family. This scholarship was created by one of his daughters, Tierra Leighann Hulsey, to provide an opportunity she wishes her father had as he was immensely proud of her college education. May his name live on by assisting other kids of color take a step towards their future.

OERB UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP

Each year, OERB awards up to $500,000 to students majoring in petroleum-related fields at the University of Oklahoma (OU), the University of Tulsa (TU), Oklahoma State University (OSU) and Oklahoma City University (OCU). Each OERB Petroleum Scholar has the opportunity to be awarded up to $22,500 in scholarships throughout their college career.
